EXECUTIVE
SECRETARY RETIRES
Being associated
with NCIMS since 1963 and serving as the Executive Secretary for
the past 19+ years, it seemed time for me to fully retire.
I have had
the privilege of being a Conference delegate, Executive Board member,
Chair of the first Liaison Committee, serving on Councils and several
other Committees until my retirement from the Kentucky Department
of Health in 1988. In April, 1989 I replaced Mr. Herb Vaux as the
Conference Executive Secretary.
I have worked
with many dedicated people over the years. I feel I have made many
friends, and, hopefully, not many enemies. It is risky to mention
names; however, there are several people who have meant a lot to
me over the years, namely, Dan Borer, Dan Rackley, John (please
bring more lemons) Sanford, Susan Esser, Rob Byrne, Cary Frye, Ted
Hickerson, Marlena Bordson, Don Breiner, Kyle Stephens, and last
but not least Gale Prince. Don Breiner nicknamed Gale and I “Laurel
and Hardy of NCIMS”. Of course everyone knows Gale is the goofy
one and I am the straight guy. I’m sure I am leaving out several
and I trust you will forgive me for that.
Thanks to my
wife Elsie for all her support to me and the Conference. The Web
Site has been 100% her efforts, in addition to many other activities.
I know Marlena
Bordson will do an excellent job and I trust everyone will support
her efforts as you have mine.
Drawing from
the last speech General MacArthur made to the cadets at West Point,
“When I cross the river for the last time I want my thoughts to
be first about family and second about NCIMS”.
Thanks for
the opportunity. It’s been quite a ride.
Leon Townsend
NCIMS Welcomes Marlena G.
Bordson
NCIMS is
proud to announce that Mrs. Marlena G. Bordson has accepted the
position of Executive Secretary. Mrs. Bordson’s experience
as Past Chair of the NCIMS, NCIMS Executive Board member, NCIMS
conference participant, and Dairy Program Manager with the Illinois
Department of Public Health were key factors in the Executive Board’s
selection. The Executive Secretary's position became available
when Mr. Leon Townsend announced his retirement in December 2007.
The NCIMS Executive Board created a search committee to accept applications
from interested candidates and make a recommendation back to the
Board. Eagar to assume the duties of the position Mrs. Bordson
completed the transfer of NCIMS office records and equipment to
a new office in Illinois the first week of April. I look forward
to working with Mrs. Bordson as we approach the 2009 NCIMS Conference
and hope you will all join me if extending a warm welcome to her.
I would also like to extend my thanks to Mr. Leon Townsend for many
years of outstanding service to NCIMS and best wishes in the future.
Mrs. Bordson
will continue her employment with the Illinois Department of Public
Health. As Executive Secretary of NCIMS, she may be reached
